Aside from finding a student's learning style, my teaching method centers around creating goals that break down barriers. Most barriers are something other than a student's ability to learn. Music is a hard-learned skill, and it's all too often that many students face the hard reality of not becoming the next legend as soon as they pick up their first instrument. In creating a system of achievable goals for the student, I'm able to push the student away from the negative outlook that comes with the inherent difficulty in maneuvering through the nuances of learning. We all know most children and even some adults hate eating vegetables, even though it is beneficial for their well-being. The things I teach are like that. I first start off with hand posture: simply learning to hold the sticks correctly eludes even some adults. no matter how far a student has advanced, I always watch their hands. a good hand posture will help the students' sound, as well as help prevent injury. I am a former member of Simn Bolvar Symphony Orchestra and teacher within the National System of Orchestras and Youth and Childrens Choirs of Venezuela (El Sistema) for more than 15 years. Recently, I was the Teaching Assistant of the clarinet studio at the University of South Carolina School of Music (2021-2023). I consider the teaching experience should be a learning process on how to teach yourself and others. In my teaching approach, discipline, perseverance, respect, and confidence are some of the most important values. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

I like to get an idea from the student and the parent what their expectations are for music lessons. From there, the student and I come up with musical goals to accomplish for that year. We create a practice schedule based on the student's school and extracurricular activities and try to follow that schedule as much as possible. I also like to incorporate other styles of music such as popular Broadway pieces and Contemporary pieces into the student's repertoire so that they can have greater diversity in their piano playing or singing. I have designed curriculums that work in phases according to the skill level of the student. In the beginning stages the curriculum is designed primarily based around the music theory required for playing the instrument at a high level. The lessons bounce back and forth between theory introduction and theory application. This continues throughout the beginning lessons, going from method to method accordingly. In the later stages I teach the student techniques and methods to improve form, speed, and overall functionality. Read More

I teach each student different. Depending on the students level, pace , knowledge, strength, abilities , determination and goals. All students will have a understanding of scales, rhythm, chords and progressions . Each one of these will breakdown to their own sub-groups. With them expanding as the student progresses . Once they have a good understanding, we'll going into songs. This is where I show how music and songs are structured. Also at this stage I start introducing music theory; which I believe is an importance. Read More
