Since graduating from Bethany College in 2010, I taught at a music studio in Wheeling, WV. Unfortunately, the studio closed down. Along with teaching there, I was giving private lessons from home and continue to do so. Teaching is something that gives me the opportunity to pass on what I've learned so far and also to instill students with the opportunity to continue a journey of lifelong learning with music. It is very easy today to record lessons and send students home with different songs to play along to. Drums are much more fun when you play with other musicians and one way to do that is with recordings. Again there is room for me to bring music to the student, but also room for the student to bring something to me that they want to learn. If my students continue to have a genuine desire to use music as an outlet for expression, stress regulation, confidence building, developing healthy relationships with themselves, etc, then I am doing my job. My goal with my students is to tailor a specific lesson plan for that individual's musical needs. Some of my favorite books to use though are the Rubank series. I find this to be a very good book to help grasp the fundamentals of the instrument for beginning players. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. As the principal pianist, she has been touring with the Grammy Award- Winning Phoenix Boys Choir in China, Spain, Portugal, France, Luxembourg, Germany, and Austria from 2017 to 2019. She was also the Director of Music for Shepherd of the Hills United Church of Christ in Phoenix from 2014 to 2018. She also has been engaged as a collaborative pianist at many festivals, conferences, and competitions in the United States and China, including Meadowmount School of Music (Westport, NY), Interlochen Arts Camp (Interlochen, MI) , Tuba and Euphonium International Conference (Tucson, AZ), MTNA competition (Tempe, AZ), Franco-American Vocal Academy (Austin, TX), China National Double Bass Competition (Beijing), and China National Voice and Opera Competition (Beijing).
