Combined with that I have my own curriculum of style studies and songs which include many genres of music. Practice is essential to growth, but if a student does not enjoy their repertoire, they simply won't practice. Therefore, I work to find common ground with students when selecting songs. I will not force Classical or Jazz, but feel the technique these styles teach are invaluable. Each student will learn music fundamentals and basic reading skills. I feel knowledge of the piano is helpful for all musicians so in early lessons I will teach piano skills to aid in practice. Read More

I enjoy teaching so much because I am able to watch each student develop a passion for music, work towards rewarding careers, and grow a great sense of curiosity. During my graduate studies at the Longy School of Music, I took a two semester sequence of pedagogy coursework which included teaching two high school students under the supervision of a Longy flute professor. I also participated in the Teacher Training Program at the Boston Flute Academy where I taught workshops to adults and junior high students on sight-reading and intonation, and masterclasses to advanced junior high and high school students. For my beginning drum students, I use Mark Wessels "A Fresh Approach to the Snare Drum and Drum Set", Rod Morganstein's "drum set musician", and Mitchell Peters' "Developing Dexterity". For students that have a good grasp of the basics, I work through material that caters to their specific interests (jazz, rock, latin, West-African, orchestral/school band, or marching percussion).
