Hi! My name is Megan, and I have a Master of Music degree in Voice Performance and Choral Conducting from Andrews University. Before that, I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Voice Performance from Southern Adventist University. Performing has been a joy of mine, and I've had the opportunity to perform with some amazing groups, such as Andrews University Singers and Southern Adventist University's I Cantori. Once the student has reached a certain level, they will begin lessons in Piano Literature and John Thompson's Modern Course for the Piano. I started playing piano at age 5 and finished a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education and Piano Pedagogy from Saint Louis University. My 16 years of classical training helped me attain a teaching position at the Yamaha School of Music in the Philippines and a rewarding teaching career at the Florida Conservatory of Music in Jacksonville, Florida. My first teaching experiences were with my father during solo and ensemble. Having hired me as an accompanist for his students, I found myself rehearsing these students moreso than accompanying them. From that point I felt encouraged to teach and help others perfect their craft. My biggest influences would have to be my past teachers, one of which taught me younger and the other as I matured. I believe that while learning to read and write sheet music, developing technique and feel, and understanding music theory are all important, the most integral part of learning an instrument - as fundamental as it sounds - is to use your ears! The wonderful aspect of my former teachers were that they allowed more advanced students to teach students that were not as advanced therefore giving the more advanced student a chance to learn and develop skills of teaching.
