I hold a Bachelor of Science in Finance and am currently earning an A.A in Jazz Studies at Saddleback Community College and plan to pursue an M.M following completion where I hope to teach K-13 . I began my career teaching privately in Beverly Hills in 2004, and also worked with the Yamaha Music school (Los Angeles branch) in 2005. In addition to teaching beginners, I also trained students for city competitions and recitals. A few years later, I was able to collaborate with SOMA music school in Diamond Bar and taught piano performance to students of various abilities. In 2009, I relocated to Korea temporarily and worked for the Yamaha Music school (Seoul branch), teaching musical development for younger children as well as giving private lessons to beginner-intermediate level students. I've found that being flexible and adaptible is most important to me, as everyone learns in a different way. I place a lot of importance on following student interest and goals as well, since it doesn't matter how great your instruction is if you're bored and don't want to keep playing. I think every student should get as much out of their lesson experience as they want, whether that means a more casual experience where you're not practicing too much throughout the week, or holding my student more accountable if they express more ambitious goals. Of course, everything depends on what you, the student, want to learn! For younger students that are just starting, I've found the Accent on Achievement books to be very helpful in developing the basics of playing. From there, Classically-focused players would learn solo repertoire, Jazz-focused players would learn standards and improvisation, and all the other genres would begin to narrow down their appropriate fields.
