For beginning students who are children, I like to start with Hal Leonard's Piano for Beginners. Progress will depend on the students' willingness to learn and practice as well as encouragement from their parents. For students who already have an understanding of basic fundamentals, I will assess their skill level and select music appropriate for their progression and level of play. For beginner Piano students who are young, I teach either from Hal Leonard's Essential Elements or Faber & Faber. Both are great interactive resources that help guide toward mastery of the basics. I also like to include games using flash cards and note names for my youngest students who learn best through a variety of activities. For those that are past beginner lever, the Faber & Faber series works well to incorporate solo repertoire with technique and theory practice. Read More

Not only did I learn about midi and music industry standards, I also had the opportunity to work with really amazing artists. One of my professors Mike Lacopelli was the recording engineer for Parliament as well as ran live sound for Aretha Franklin for 8 years. Later in my college career I began playing synthesizer with a band and working for Delta States Studio. I also worked in their computer lab teaching music software programs to newer students; the software programs included: Logic, Pro Tools and Garage Band. Read More

My teaching experience goes back to when I taught piano lessons in high school. Since then I have continued to teach private lessons throughout college. I now teach music at Kansas City Public Schools. One of the key components to my teaching is helping my students find a way to enjoy making music. I like to provide fun supplemental activities as well as their regular lesson books.
