I generally choose to use Faber as a method book for all my beginning students, using the age appropriate track for each student ranging from too young to read yet to adult learners. I believe that both the lesson book and the theory books are highly important and necessary. Depending on the student and their wants and needs, other books for each level may be added. Once a basic comprehension of reading music and technique have been achieved, I like to branch out into other repertoire of whichever style or styles are most interesting to the student. Read More

Standing on stage with great musicians is the most effective way to learn music. That’s because music is an aural tradition, meaning music is taught by ear, often thru singing. Just like language. How did you learn to speak English? Not by reading books, but by jamming with words and speaking with masters of the language. Jamming (with notes or words) is the act of exchanging ideas with another person, a conversation. Read More

As your piano teacher, I aim to provide a warm, supportive, and engaging learning environment with honest yet positive feedback to help students become confident and self-motivated. Listening, evaluating, and learning how to use those observations to improve the way we play are all skills that I encourage my students to use to become independent learners. Every student has a unique set of abilities and way of learning, which is something to be embraced. Read More

I started teaching two years ago at a private lesson studio in Denver called My Music Skool. My main focus was on piano and saxophone. Now I teach privately as a freelance musician. Two points I emphasize when teaching are practicing at least once a day no matter how long you play and learning what inspires you. There will always be some sort of theory I sneak in whether it's learning scales or building technical skills that will build confidence and ability, but if these devices aren't being applied to the type of music that inspires the student, then learning music becomes discouraging instead of fun. Voice- Depending on how long the lesson is we work on vocal warmups then work on a song. In a 30 min lesson we do vocal warmups for 10 minutes then work on a song fir 20 minutes.Learning the proper vocal technique. Piano-Go through lesson book and other performance books also work on theory if the child is younger and has a short attention span. I love teaching all ages and all styles of music. Read More

My musical philosophy is heavily rooted in the Suzuki method of teaching music. I believe that a student can't simply pick up an instrument once a week and become proficient with it, but rather, they must practice a minimum of 30 minutes daily, and enjoy what they are doing! Music can lead to better grades in school, higher memory retention, and an improved sense of discipline and responsibility, but I believe that that all stems in the fun factor that music provides.
