My teaching experience dates back to when I was an undergraduate. I began giving private lessons to younger college and high school students. Since then I have consistently taught students privatly either at my studio, at their home, or at a school. While obtaining my Masters degree at the University of Northern Colorado I was a teaching assistant and got hands on teaching experience with big bands and small jazz combos. Read More

The Suzuki Method is particularly effective with children aged three to seven. A young childs aural capabilities are greatest in the early years of life, and therefore a method which relies heavily on aural stimulation is most suitable. Three and four year old children do not yet have the mental capacities to read music from a page, but are able to learn to play very well by rote. The pupil will learn to read music after their playing abilities are well established. Read More

I encourage students to set goals for each week and complete them. If your children want to learn the cello, I will use encouragement and play as a way to introduce music. Being a friend with them, introducing and getting to know the cello in this way is an important criterion for me. I hope everyone can learn the piano happily and enjoy the fun of playing the cello. But if there are students who want to learn piano with me in a more professional way, I will also be very happy for you to come. Read More

I am very goal-oriented in my teaching because it provides not only motivation but proof for my students. In that vain, it's important for me to understand why a student is taking lessons so that we can effectively work together to progress. Wether the goal is to familiarize a young student with note reading and musical ideas, to help a musical hobbyist learn their favorite hits, or to train technique for refined classical music performance - I take a tailored approach to each student's instruction. I meet students at their skill level, to ensure that they enjoy their learning experience. From there, we work together at a pace that is right for the student. This varies from person to person, and depends on the outcomes they want to achieve. I want students to stretch in order to expand their abilities, and reach levels they could not find without guided assistance, but I am not a demanding taskmaster. Read More

My lessons are usually 30 minutes long for beginners. On top of learning from a piano series, I like to incorporate songs and styles that the student is insterested in learning. Theory and technique are also very important aspects of the lesson. Most importantly, I want the student to find their lesson time enjoyable, and make them excited to learn more. Read More

Drawing a grand staff and then drawing notes on the staff help the student understand how music is written. Once basic theory is introduced, I look for music that I hope the student will enjoy playing. I know that there is music I love to play and music I would rather not play. It is important to find at least once piece that the student really likes and looks forward to playing. Read More
