Looking back over my professional career -- which includes several public relations, marketing and advertising positions -- my favorite and most rewarding activities have centered around music. Whenever possible, I use my own method, which includespromoting spatial relationships and patterns. Although composition is not my specialty, I certainly can do the basics and then point them to a more accomplished musician. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching privet lessons more then 20 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 10 years. Encouraging regular practice a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to empathize for younger students, as it tends to help the students progress and gain a passion for the instrument. My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original materials, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. I have had great success in continually trying to adapt my methods to what works best for each student. This makes the lesson very personal for the student as well as very fresh and exciting for me. I have had 8 different piano teachers, varoius band directors, college professors, personal private flamenco and jazz lessons. I have played with some of the best players in St. Louis- many of which were also university professors or symphonic performers. Read More

I've been giving lessons since I was in high school, but I was able to expand the instruments I'm able to teach from my college training. I have been teaching with Webster's Community Music School for the past year and a half and I have had great success with teaching young beginners, although I have started older kids and even adults with great success (I just use a different curriculum with older students). For beginning and intermediate students I utilize the Bastien Method books series, which includes supplemental Theory and Technique books that can be purchased if needed. These students each select performance pieces which they enjoy and are level-appropriate from a variety of sources. More advanced students focus primarily on challenging performance pieces, several of which are selected as 'keepers' for practice and review. Lessons include technique practice (scales, arpeggios, finger exercises), theory (from textbooks, flashcards etc.) music history, instrument mechanics, ear training and musicianship (such as rhythm and sight reading drills, dictation) and student compositions (notation and continuation methods).
