Alfred Publishing piano courses (both older and newer), Faber and Faber, Bastien, Edna Mae Burnam, and the Hal Leonard course have all been among my pre-published methods that I have used over the years. I have also adopted some technic content from elsewhere. For example, the Zion Conservatory of Music, where I taught from 2004 to 2018, uses a couple of different customized scale patterns for first- and second-year students. Listening to different styles helps students develop their own music senses and apply these into their playing styles. This starts with a strong grasp of music theory to appreciate the structure in each music piece, which then lays a foundation for students to write their own songs and express their passion. PRACTICE makes perfect, but practice with strategies makes practice effective . Jill has been teaching children and adults for 20 years. I studied voice and piano and performed at various venues. Now, I focus more on teaching piano and voice. We work on technique, performance, note reading, sight reading, and interpretation. We also work on music theory. We do 2 recitals per year as well that are a low key and nice way for students to gain experience. I teach ages 6 and up. Read More

I usually begin with Kjoss Standard of Excellence for students who are children, or for students who are just starting out. I will start to present solo repetoire suitable for their first recital show when a student has gained an understanding of the basics.
