My experience with teaching began during my undergraduate studies. I have worked with students in the classroom teaching elementary music as well as at the middle school and high school level teaching choir. In addition, I have taught my closest friends in piano and organ. While I was the staff accompanist at a high school, I taught the treble choir and gave piano and voice lessons during off-periods. I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching, especially when I see that students are inspired by music and are willing to take on the task of mastering their craft. Read More

I was introduced to music early on by my parents. Being classically trained on the piano I started playing and writing songs at the tender age of seven. My early piano influences are Mozart, Beethoven and Gershwin amongst others. Growing up, I became even more influenced by Pop, R&B, Funk, and Rock artists from the likes of Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson and Prince. As a teenager in high school, I performed recitals and played in rock bands, and picked up the guitar and drums to broaden my music repertoire. Read More

Lastly, support and accountability are also integral parts of my teaching style. Even in individual lessons, I foster a supportive environment, offering resources like mp3 practice tracks, youtube videos, and other homework to keep students engaged and track their progress. I also provide regular feedback and encouragement to ensure continuous improvement. Lastly, I do weekly and multiple times a week check-in's with my students to encouragement and ensure they feel supported to continue making progress. Read More

As a teacher my goal is not to simply teach a student how to play or sing a certain song. My goal is to teach my students how to use the discipline of music to help them to develop their character. To that end I emphasize learning music fundamentals well and being able to put them into practice playing or singing in public at every opportunity. I also believe that playing with other musicians helps students to solidify their skills so I encourage them to play in an ensemble at every opportunity. Read More
