The highlight of my day of music is teaching all ages and all levels of piano, music theory and composition. Since I am very confident in the many styles and techniques in which I have performed over the years, it is with pure joy that I teach the various levels of piano along with the musical tools necessary. In this way, the student is enlightened, encouraged, and excited to experience all the wonderful worlds that the piano encompasses. Read More

Say a student likes to do RB. Introduce them to early blues. Say another student likes rock or metal. Introduce them to different classical methods that would make their tone sound even better. Musicians like Pat Benatar and Geoff Tate (Queensryche) started out classically trained, but it made a huge difference in their tone quality and vowel structuring. If a student wishes to learn from em, they will have a lot of fun, but they will also work hard. Read More

I have performed in many choral settings including professional choirs with full orchestras. I have made debuts in operas. I have also directed and assisted choirs in the learning process and in performance. To create a healthy vocal sound, I encourage vocalizing everyday for at least 30 minutes. Read More

I believe that positive reinforcement is the best way to encourage my students to attain the confidence that is needed as a performer. Musical expression is a visceral experience and I strive to create a comfortable environment for my students. Because sometimes learning an instrument can be tedious, I like to break my lessons up with warmup, rudiment, etude and dexterity exercises; Scale and theory practices; repertoire development in multiple styles including original works; and finally improvisation and listening. I have recently agian started teaching in the fall of 2014 after being on a medical hiatus. I have grown in helping my students develop a strong sense of technique, rhythm and develop a strong classical backgound while also continuing to help students develop a sense of who they are throughout thier music. I desire students to have a strong foundation in technique but also make sure that they pursue a genre that they love and are passionate about. Read More

My musical background and experience started my early years. My family and I sang together, in church, in school, and in shows and special events. I began studying singing and song leading with my father at age six, piano with my mother at age seven, and guitar with my cousin at age thirteen. Through the years, my love of music—performing, learning, teaching, and sharing has never waned. My college studies focused on voice, church music, and conducting, and my graduate work emphasized choral music performance, music education, theory, and history. Read More
