It is a basic book with specific essential elements for reading and understanding music. As the student progresses I use to introduce songs for their repertoire applying what they leaned in the book. My job is of upmost importance; to teach, but also to learn. As an educator I am responsible for encouraging growth and delivering material as efficiently as possible while maintaining a realistic sense of what is achievable. However, it is also my job to learn from the student and be able to adapt and grow to new situations. I have almost every beginner piano method book available. I do not go by just one piano method book page by page. I find this method very boring for the student. What I do is make a copy of each song or exercise from different books that I have that I think is better for the individual student. I create custom lesson plans graded to progressively build the student's confidence, introducing something new at each lesson. If students fall in love with a piece well beyond their current capability, I don't usually say no; instead, I help them master the challenges step by step. I require students to learn scales; however, I avoid most technical method books. Instead, I invent exercises based on the challenges of a particular piece. Read More
