I began teaching beginner piano when I was in middle school and caught the teaching bug! (My dad was a high school choir teacher for thirty-five years, so I must have caught it from him.) Now I teach violin/fiddle, voice and piano. I believe that learning classical music and sight reading are both fundamentals to begin learning any instrument. With my piano teaching, I am particularly experienced in working with younger or beginner students, combining solid technical works, classical repertoires, as well as students' choice of preference (pop, jazz, or even improvisation and song writing!) to make the lessons firm and fun. I typically start the lesson with scales and etudes, followed by repertoires that are a combination of the students' and my choices. I usually don't believe in rules. I never really followed the rules as a musician and just played how I felt because of my gift. I make music sound more colorful and bright and I can add any instrument to music and make it sound good. Technically, I would just teach beginners how to play whatever instrument they want to learn. For example, if you want to learn how to play the piano, I will sit down with you the first day and we will go over how to play the piano and you will automatically be playing notes and chords after the first session.
