During the first lesson, I have a short discussion with the student to see what their goals are. I also ask what about music interests them. I then ask them to perform anything of their choice to assess their ability level (if applicable). After that, I tell them what immediately needs to be addressed and how this will work with their longterm goal. I started teaching in high school. I was a successful performer, so people started asking if I teach. I studied and took online classes to strengthen my musical and vocal knowledge as a 16-year-old. I started teaching and built a successful 20-person studio in California for two years. Because of my time at the Frost School of Music, I have built a studio in Miami as well. Afterwards I was fortunate to study with the great Jerry Jemmott on Long Island (Aretha Franklin and BB King's bassist). He taught me approaches to music that changed my life. I subsequently played in blues and cover bands for many years after this. Throughout this time I have continued to compose all sorts of music including country, bossa nova, counterpoint and rock.
