I have a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies from Western Michigan University and a Master of Music degree in Jazz Performance from New England Conservatory. Set a specific time every day/week. Make sure the student doesn't eats a hour before the lesson. Put on your mind to "receive" mode and that there aren't any distractions in the room. If a section of a piece is problematic then we would work on that part first. A metronome can be helpful when practicing. If possible, internally sing the part you are playing. I have played all around the country including Texas, Colorado, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, California, Georgia, New Jersey and many more. In 2020, I qualified as a finalist for the Northeast Euphonium Tuba Regional Conference Military Euphonium Mock Band Audition Competition. For piano, I have had 8 years of training and have won many competitions. The most rewarding thing for a teacher is seeing the student progress, does not matter to me if it's perfect! Music takes time and practice and it's very much like a painting. You are not gonna be done in a whole day, you add a little everyday. I only ask my students to set aside 15-30 minutes a day to practice. For my students, I like to make sure that their experience learning music is fun and enjoyable, but also rewarding. I want to make sure that anyone studying with me is having a fun time, but also learning good habits. It is very important to learn how to warm up properly and also how to correctly play your instrument.
