My methods are widespread from conventional and modern methods using a combination of note reading, Improvisation using the Larry Carlton method and the Oscar Peterson Piano methodology. I wrote my own guitar book and have many styles of music that I teach. Very important that the student understands what they have to practice and I make sure they understand what is to be done. Using the Bastien and Alfred series on piano, All for Strings on any String instruments. Read More

I believe that motivating and inspiring music students requires a different approach. I love to teach because its very rewarding to see when a student gets it after many trials and errors. Every practice session should have a goal, and practice goals are more important than setting a time. I believe that everyone has the capability to play something easy and fun if he/she is willing to put some time into the practice. Read More

I started songwriting in my senior year but it wasnt until attending college that I took it seriously and pursued a career in original music. I grew up always listening to old-school RB and hip-hop, due to my family background and experiencing life as a young black American, so this style of music has a big influence in my life. However, as I started teaching music 3 years ago I developed a love and a passion for helping students reach their potential in any area and genre of music, from classical to jazz, to coaching with original music and exploring the writing process. Depending on the level of the student and instrument, I incorporate a mixture of theory, aural skills, technique, and repertoire. All of my piano students play Hannon exercises to build up their finger strength and dexterity as well as scales. Vocal students and guitar students likewise learn scales and exercises for the sake of technique. All students start each lesson by practicing reading rhythms at varying complexities, then creating their rhythmic patterns. Read More

I like to create lessons in which students learn to read traditional music notation, develop technique, and play familiar tunes. I use musictheory.net to help student practice reading note names. The faster a student can read musical notation, the faster the student can pick up new pieces. To develop technique, I want students to lean scales and arpeggios. Sometimes, we use a technique book to develop muscle memory, and other times technical exercises are created based on the tricky musical passages of solo or ensemble pieces. Read More

I try to keep the student as interested as possible, some have shorter attention spans then others and for them maybe i will do 30 minutes instead of 45 minutes. others who are really into it and do not want to leave i may teach them for an hour and that often turns into 2 or 3 hours of just jamming and having fun at no extra cost because without students a maestro is nothing but a musician playing music. i love to play along with students so they are more prepared when they go out and make music with others musicians and they can stay in time with a drummer more easily. I start by gathering information about a student's goals and inspirations, and prior knowledge/experience. From there, we develop a plan for warmup exercises, technical exercises, literature, sight-reading, ear-training and listening excerpts to be studied. I determine whether the student needs to begin learning primarily by ear or using some kind of written notation. We find a schedule that will work with both of us. Most students have a regular weekly time, but some students need a variable time due to their individual schedule so we work that out in advance. Read More
