I began teaching Guitar and Piano during college as a way to expand my playing and teaching skills. Over the years I gained extensive knowledge of teaching techniques and how to work with students at all levels, ages, backgrounds, and understanding of theoretical music application. I handle my students with care, respect, and motivate them through positive reinforcement of their milestones while learning. Moreover, I have taught guitar and piano to over 200 students in the last decade - many have pursued careers in music, and some have even surpassed my accomplishments. Read More

My teaching style is very flexible. I am able to teach classical, as well as many different musical genres. I am able to arrange piano songs to the student's level and write down the scores from the songs. My ultimate purpose of teaching piano is to make my students ENJOY their performances. However, the key factor in improving piano skills is hard practice. Making sure their children keep practicing is always challenging for parents and teachers, but please remember that everyday practice is required if you would like to progress your piano performance. I teach traditional music theory and sight reading focusing on reading music and learning musical vocabulary and symbols. My students will learn the fundamentals while also exploring different musical genres, ranging from the classics like Beethoven and Mozart to modern idioms like jazz, pop music, and even musical theater standards. In addition learning repertoire from a wide range of styles, my students also learn the fundamentals of music theory, from rhythm, basic harmony, and intervalic reading to more advanced harmonic and structural analysis. It's important to me to cater my teaching style to each student. Not all students learn the same way so its not a one size fits all. Some of my students need more pressure and more practice and want to have more material and others like a more laid back approach. I will spend the first 1-3 lessons to figuring out what your preferred learning method is, what the problem areas are, and what kind of books, tools, and games I should prepare for the rest of our classes. If you’ve tried and failed, or even if you’ve never touched a piano, Smiley can teach you. And, you’ll have fun doing it because with my easy approach to learning, you will start playing the songs you like from day one, not practicing endless scales all the time, and boring music language that would be difficult to understand the first day. With my easy learning how to play approach, you would lean your first song and be able to play it, over and over until you learn a new song to share. Read More

Music is emotional art and I like to explain it how it easy if you know basic knowledge. For me it's important making good progress in small think of student work. These new small developments are required to be accomplished during my lessons. My style is more practice then explaining. I try to show emotion in music rather than just playing simple notes. My style of teaching is not directly one ways for all students,I have to change it always when I can see that some are wrong,or don't works well. Read More
