All I want is to know that my students are enjoying music more deeply, and that they gain the self-sufficiency to learn between lessons. I make sure to point out milestones that a student has achieved to encourage that innate human drive for improvement, and always keep looking for what is exciting and inspiring for the student at a given time. I make sure each student I work with knows what elements to include in their practice, how to learn a piece of music from scratch, and how to break things down into manageable, learnable chunks. For beginning students, I start with Michael Aaron and Michael Aaron Music Theory books. The beginner students really enjoy these theory books! I also incorporate Fabers Music Adventures into the lessons. As the student progresses, I begin to introduce pieces appropriate for their levels and tastes. Each student learns and progresses individually and I take that into account when suggesting repertoire for them. One student may want a classical piece while another student may want a song by Bruno Mars. Read More

My teaching experience started in 2002 when I enrolled at the Conservatory of Music. Initially, I accepted private students in my home whose age ranged from 12 to 50 years years old. Then, after some time I decided to join the YMCA Music Department in Manila, Philippines. Since then, I have regularly taught students at home and at the YMCA studio. When I graduated, I started teaching music in the College of Music for students majoring in Voice and Choral Conducting. Read More

I have had many students on and off over the years. I tend to focus on making music or teaching but not both as I find doing anything well involves 100% committment. For the next 4 or 5 years I am focused on teaching exclusively. My knowledge is vast and I am excited to convey this knowledge to others! Trust me you will not be disappointed! The methods I teach will not only get you progressing but self-progressing and will cover a variety of instruments. Read More

Above all, I want to see my students develop the kind of love for music that can foster and sustain a life of appreciation and self expression. I enjoy seeing my students grow into their artistic selves and pursue their own musical interests with their newly aquired skills. Following my students musical tastes is a great way to motivate and encourage them while instilling the technical training they need to be great musicians. Read More

I use a few different method books, and while they are very useful for attaining the building blocks of technique and knowledge young and beginning musicians need but I like to go beyond what reading books has to offer. My goal is to show my students everything there is - reading, theory, and technique are all important but so is creation, improvisation, learning through sound and finding what inspires them. I focus on tone production, articulation and phrasing. Sight reading, improvisation and music theory follow next. With clarinet and saxophone students I spend a lot of time on reed selection and care. There are so many misconceptions about reed strength and how it relates to mouthpieces that I could talk about it all day (and usually do). I work on clarinets and saxophones every day and consider myself proficient in identifying problems with instruments and then fixing those problems. Read More
