I use different methods for different ages of students. It also depends on how and what the student wants to learn about piano, as well as their future goal which related to music. Every year around November and December, I organize a charity concert called "fusion" in Manhattan, students will be invited to perform at the beginning of the concert as our special guests. As well as working with Steinway & Sons, we will hold a student concert every year for giving students a stage to perform. Read More

My pedagogy is based on the American jazz tradition and the teachings of Orff and Kodaly. I like to impart a holistic love of music in my students, without boring them with too much history or theory. However, it is my belief that theory and musical literacy will open doors to a greater level of fulfillment and understanding of music as a whole. The materials I use vary from student to student and from instrument to instrument, depending on each student's goals and progress. Read More

I started regularly teaching private lessons in 2019. I worked at the Wilmette Parks District, the Park District of Highland Park, Dynamic Music, and as a freelance teacher. I also was a music director for the Wilmette Children's Theatre, the Florida Repertory Theatre, and Highland Park's summer programming. I've been playing guitar since I was eight, piano since I was twelve, and I've been singing my whole life. I also had four years of performance training at the University of Central Florida, where I was a musical theatre performance major. Read More

For young students, I would usually start them off using Bastien Piano Basics. It's very digestible, and gives a good starting-off point for both technical playing, and larger musical concepts as a whole. With a student who is older or perhaps more advanced, who has a solid grasp on technical proficiency and music theory, I would typically recommend studying specific pieces, starting with Classical, and eventually moving into Jazz. I feel that following a chronological study of music is one of the best ways to become a well-rounded, versatile player who feels comfortable approaching any material. Read More

I love to perform, but I also love to work with students by sharing my musical journey. The best people I can share my passion are always my students. After I graduated at Manhattan School of Music, I have made my debut as Mezzo soloist in Mozart’s Coronation Mass at Lincoln Center Avery Fisher Hall in New York , as well as Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy at Carnegie Hall. Because I perform different varieties of music, I had the privilege to perform for Paul McCartney’s US premier “Standing Stone” at Carnegie Hall. Read More

I started teaching private piano lesson back in high school. At that time, I enjoyed teaching students as young as five years old and as old as 85. No matter the age, I felt then, and still today, that really taking the time to understand each individual student's interests greatly benefited my ability to be a sensitive, thoughtful, and successful teacher. Since relocating to NYC a couple of years ago, having been living in Seoul for the previous two and a half years, I've continued to truly enjoy teaching piano and music production students around the city. With beginning students, I will lay out all of the fundamentals, teaching all of the scales, basic chords, key signatures and time signatures, and gradually integrate strategies for reading music. Depending on what the student is interested in learning, I will pull from my pool of repertoire - we could be studying a Bach Invention at the same time as a Billy Joel song. Classical music is great for technique and in many ways textbook for teaching harmony, but I play and love contemporary music, and will teach anything, as long as there is some form of musical knowledge to be gained from the material.
