Her small person houses a surprisingly large, perfectly focused lyric soprano voice of a very individual quality. Particularly fine in the upper range, whether fortissimo high B-flat of the “Un bel di” in the second act, her voice never lost its focus or its full, round quality. Her portrayal of Cio-Cio-San coupled with a childlike propriety with a flirtatious submissiveness over a core of steel, at once captivating while commanding sympathy and respect.” Sarasota Herald Tribune----Sarasota, Florida “The long-awaited and anticipated Butterfly was beyond our expectations ... never such a “Madama Butterfly” as this, Ok-Ja Lim, a girl from South Korea, whose liquid voice and acting ability were so natural, so superb. My teaching experience dates back to my middle college years, as I began teaching private lessons part time approximately 10 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 7 years. Encouraging regular practice consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. My students encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own material,so they can feel about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. Read More

I received my Bachelor's degree in Music Education at the State University of New York at Fredonia in 2017, where I performed regularly with the Symphonic and Chamber Orchestra, and learned about how to teach students both individually and in a school setting. I am a strong advocate in fusing together practice and performance. I personally have had teachers that focused too much on technical studies and theory, and not enough time on incorporating those skills into performance; which is the main reason why many people have a desire to learn a musical instrument. In my lessons, I focus on developing skills that are essential to my student's overall musical development. These skills include music theory, ear training, rhythmic analysis, technique, and finally, applying all those skills into a performing setting. Read More

For beginning students, I prefer to use the Alfred's Basic Piano Course books. Once the student gets down the fundamentals and becomes more technically proficient, I introduce solo repertoire and get them started with some fun and musical etudes to improve finger dexterity. I also like to make the lessons fun and entertaining for the kids by playing some music games or giving rewards. For adult students, I try to find appropriate beginner piano books. Read More

For beginning students, I typically start with the Suzuki Method while combining it with the Essential Elements Method. As the student learns the fundamentals I gradually add scales and exercises to further develop the student's technique. After further progress, I begin to introduce solo repertoire and add other pieces. I'm fairly flexible on what pieces the student may play in the lessons, as long as the rudiments and classic repertoire are covered. Read More
