In general, I will allocate appropriate Etudes, Scales, and Repertoire that is inline with their abilities and the standards of their particular instrument. If they are preparing for an upcoming performance or audition, that may take precedent. For beginning piano students who are children, I usually start with John Thompson's "Teaching Little Fingers To Play."  Once the student has progressed and becomes more familiar with reading the notes in both clefs, I will begin to introduce solo pieces of music that the child picks out of the choices I present to them.  I do this to help encourage and reward the child with their success.  For adult piano students, I find out what the student is interested in and guide my instruction accordingly. I then like to guide them towards a more wholistic approach to music focusing on learning harmony and melody through the use of lead sheets. The show had its long run from October 2015 to July 2016 with performances all over the country. I make sure my students learn the scales; which are very important. I also use the Hanon book for exercises when my students begin to advance to a higher level of understanding.
