For beginning students I prefer to use either Alfred's, Mel Bay, or Hal Leonard method books. I generally stay away from method books that use guitar tablature because I find that student will prefer to read the tablature instead of standard musical notation. Tablature is a good way to easily show how guitar parts are played, but is not useful when teaching standard notation, music theory, harmony, etc. In addition to using a method book, I will also teach the student popular songs, which is a great way to start teaching chords and song structure in addition to keeping the lesson fun and the student engaged. I tend to emphasize theory as well as playing when Im teaching my students because learning music is more effective when supported by theory. Learning a musical indtrument requires a high level of concentration to learn and understand the music, and to memorize and perform it, so it can be helpful for students with other learnings or activities. Moreover the process of completing a piece is more difficult and time consuming than we think, but through this kind of practice, kids can develop their patience and discipline. Read More

I start by finding the things students like most about their instruments and given style to learn. We then try to pick apart and play based off of that. Certain techniques facilitate practical application. For instance, If a student is getting ready for an audition, there are techniques where the student can learn how to cope with the anxiety. I am a patient and flexible teacher. I have extensive knowledge of theory and various techniques, but I make sure the student is learning what they want. I believe in teaching songs to introduce new skills. Through repertoire, the student can learn theory, ear training, technique and other fundamental skills. I have been playing guitar and bass since 2000 and started playing piano and ukulele in college in 2008. I specialize in jazz and improvisation, but I have studied and love all kinds of music like folk, reggae, classical, rock and blues. Read More

Every child has their own way of learning. Some are visual, others aural, verbal or kinesthetic. As a teacher I will adapt my lessons to each child needs. The basic structure of the lesson is review/present the new concept, apply it and at the end of the lesson discuss the new given homework for the following lesson. I will go to the student pace. I also take into account their reason of learning music and no matter what I try to make lessons interesting and fun for them. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice Music
The technique that I teach to my students has helped me sing for hours a day, and has gotten me through the most rigorous performances with no vocal strain or fatigue. I always introduce my students, no matter the age, to the Vaccai Vocal Methods book. This book has many exercises that takes the singer through all of the facets of their voice, and helps them hone their skills. If I find a student is too advanced for the book, we usually jump right into solo repertoire. Read More
