Once a lesson plan has been established with a student, I progress them through each lesson with specific goals. My goal is to infuse the student with understanding but also wonder and awe as to how music is created. There is always something worth praising in a student, and I am always sure to do that in our lessons after every performance. Beginning students for woodwinds (flute, clarinet, saxophone) usually start with the Essential Elements book. As they advance the next books are usually Breeze Easy book 2 followed by the Rubank Intermediate and Advanced Methods. Advanced students will break into instrument specific methods. Flute with use methods such as The Melodious Studies and Pares scales books, clarinets with use the Klose books and Saxophone students will use Ferling and Klose studies. Students wishing to study jazz methods will use either the Jim Snidero or Walt Weiskopf methods. Read More

I use several methods; Royal Conservatory of Music, Alfred, and Faber to name a few. These publishers provide lesson books, theory, and pieces. The selection of books will vary because there is no "one size fits all" solution. I introduce fundamentals, then solo pieces in various styles. Often same concepts are used in different types of music. So for example, musical structure within a piece can be shown in classical and even popular music! Read More

I have a very personal and relaxed way of teaching that helps each student enjoy and advance on their chosen instrument at their pace. I prefer 60 minute sessions to have the time to fully evaluate and advance from the previous lesson and to move on to new material. I recorded my first solo album titled Just a Bass and won NMHS Battle of the Bands again my senior year. For my senior project I composed, rehearsed and performed my first Concerto for Cello and Orchestra and went on to study Double Bass performance at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music where I received my B.M.
