I cater my teaching and methods to each individual student and his/her needs and goals. For beginners, I often use Hal Leonard’s Essential Elements. After progressing past that, the Rubank books and Hite etudes work for many students. Starting around 8th grade, I introduce solo repertoire appropriate to their level. This was followed by an elementary teaching position in the same township. I then took a step back to focus on my playing. I first started music at a young age through my local church; my first instrument being flute. I studied flute for many years before taking formal voice lessons. This led me to become a voice performance major at the Manhattan School of Music, where I sang lead roles in and outside of the school. Over the past thirteen years, I have taught nearly 400 students - beginning as a junior in high school with four pianists. My teaching experiences have ranged from group lessons with fourth-grade, beginner clarinetists and saxophonists, to starting brand new five-year old pianists, to preparing high schoolers for competitive auditions and performances, to substitute lessons with adults. I actively seek to have my students play for people whenever they can (i.e. church, family gatherings), and I seek out and arrange more formal and organized events such as recitals or visiting the elderly and performing at retirement villages and nursing homes.
