I taught AP music theory while I was IN high school, graduated as the top pianist of one of the top 10 jazz bands in the USA. In college at SMU, I studied finance, but quickly got a double in music, studying classical music under Alfred Mouledous (world renowned pianist) and focusing my free time on jazz. I played and taught at a company called ABMusic in Perth, Australia which taught Indigenous Australians how to assimilate into soceity through the use of music. Read More

I know that every student has a different learning style, and therefore, each lesson plan is custom-made. I work to further develop their natural skills, and making them feel comfortable working on what doesn't come as easily. Together, the student and I work to find out exactly what inspires them, and then all of their lessons will revolve around that. Read More

Ive been teaching saxophone and piano lessons professionally for the last 7 years, and have had students go on to play for the Utah All-State Jazz Band and have earned several scholarships. I encourage regular practicing and give weekly assignments that include rudiments, transcription projects, and listening assignments. I focus on the jazz language and how its been applied to modern genres like hip hop, funk, and RnB. My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. Above all else, music is supposed to be fun. I want my students to be excited about learning new things each week. Music is also a collaborative practice, so I think it is important for the student and the teacher to play together in a supportive environment to help reaffirm the week's lesson. I understand that each student is different, and weekly assignments will be given accordingly. This will require a reasonable weekly goal so that students can see their progress and feel good about their accomplishments, inspiring them to continue playing and learning. For my beginning students who are children on piano, I typically start with Alfred's Basic piano books. There are so many levels and it helps them understand the basics. With the piano books there are also theory workbooks that give them a chance to think about what they are actually doing when it comes to making music. With the older students on piano, I stick with Alfred's Piano books for adults. Read More

I began teaching private lessons in my second year of college, and have maintained a studio ever since! What I enjoy most about my teaching is seeing a passion for the saxophone and music arise and blossom. I use multiple activities in each lesson to keep my instruction fresh, fun, and engaging. I happily facilitate performing opportunities for eager students, including school festivals, church services and activities, nursing homes, and other public venues. Read More
