The methods that I would typically use are the Arbans complete Conservatory method for trumpet and Cornet. Schlossberg´s Daily Drills and Studies, Clarkes method and Caruso. I have been studying these four methods quite some time now and understand not only the instruction on the page but the purpose of the excercise itself. I never work exclusively from one book or another. Finally, I'm a strong believer in the importance of having a strong ability with and (even more importantly!) understanding of the fundamentals of the saxophone, and of music itself. This means guided practice of the basic exercises in lessons, and guided analysis/breakdown of music to see the inner patterns at work. For my students that want them, I create practice guides after each lesson (written music with exercises discussed) and send follow up emails with suggestions for things to focus on in that week's practice. I have taught at educational institutions including; Drew University in Madison New Jersey (saxophone, improvisation, and jazz ensemble); The International School of Brooklyn teaching music to children ages 3 to 7 years utilizing the Orff method; and the Kulanu after-school enrichment program in Stamford CT, where I coached teen jazz and klezmer ensembles.
