I typically start beginner students on the Rubank Elementary Method books for saxophone, clarinet, or flute. These books are a great way to introduce the basic mechanics of the instrument, as well as reading music. I generally like to branch out from the method books as soon as possible, by supplementing the basic reading with other technical studies and pieces. For adults and more advanced students, I like to steer the focus more in the direction of what they want to learn, while still teaching the proper fundamentals of the instrument! Read More

For beginner students young and old I start out with Rubank Elementary Method for saxophone. This book provided a solid foundation in basic theory and reading that lead to musical literacy. From there I go towards the basics of improvisation in the blues while continuing with technique books on the side. Once this foundation is in place I begin to encourage the student to explore music they're passionate about and start with the basics of solo transcription and more advanced improvisation. Read More

While there I directed the brass ensemble and taught trumpet, French Horn, baritone, and tuba. My first full time teaching position was in Congers New York at Lakewood Elementary School. In March 2014, Luis was one of only three students chosen to perform in a flute master class with virtuoso flute player, Sir James Galway. In 2013, Luis performed alongside his colleagues in Hong Kong, Beijing, and South Korea. In addition, Luis was the first-place winner in the 2013 New Jersey Flute Choir Competition. In 2012 he performed a Duo Flute Concerto with Andrea Rivera as winners of the Nyack College Concerto Competition. In 2016 he was invited to return to Asia for the 2016 Chamberfest Tour as the Artistic Director where he would oversee rehearsals, prepare programs, and perform chamber and solo repertoire in Hong Kong, Seoul, Macau, and Japan.
