With each lesson, I hope to leave students feeling motivated and excited about music. It can take time before a student realizes the joy of playing his/her instrument. I try to get to that point as quickly as possible by making lessons fun, highly interactive, and encouraging. When possible, I encourage and often escort students to local music venues to experience live performances. As such, my approach for a less serious student will be different from my approach for a more serious student. I decided to offer piano and general music lessons while I was attending college. It turned out to be very fun and rewarding to see my students begin to understand and apply the concepts I taught them. Creating my own teaching style and curriculum was difficult, but learning from my peers was a great experience and very helpful. Many of my past students have gone on to perform in competetions and recitals and still have a great passion for playing their instrument and continue to practice and perform. I feel a sense of accomplishment when I see one of my students gain an appreciation and passion for music. Because of this I think it is important that every student advances at their own speed.
