I began taking on private students while still in college at Temple University in Philadelphia. Although I was pursuing a degree in performance, taking on a studio of woodwind students while completing my studies helped me realize my passion for passing along my own knowledge and experience I have gained as a musician! Since then, I have maintained a regular teaching schedule combining both in-home and studio-based lessons. I start beginners off with the Rubank Elementary Method, which introduces reading, scales, arpeggios, and expressive devices such as dynamics and articulation. I also like students to start with improvisation, composition, and ear training as soon as possible. I encourage them to both work on whatever repertoire interests them and find new types of music they don't know they're interested in yet. These books are primarily classical pieces, but I also use digital accompaniments for jazz and popular music. Theory and ear training are also part of my lessons.
