I'm a very passionate and motivated educator who loves sharing that passion and motivation with my students. I'm currently attending Metropolitan State University of Denver getting my bachelor's in trumpet performance. I've been playing the trumpet since I was 11, but really found that it was my calling in my junior year of high school where I decided to pursue a degree in something that I love! Since then, I have won the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award in 2018, played with the Parker Symphony as the assistant principal trumpet, have played with the Colorado Brass, the Rocky Mountain Jazz Orchestra, and the Mariachi Los Caracaminos de MSU, as well as many other chamber ensembles both professionally and at my university. I'm a vocal and instrumental instructor for over fourteen years who is passionate about helping students both express their thoughts and feelings through music and develop their skills in music as a door to open other opportunities in life. When taking on beginner students, I typically use a blend of method books and novice musical pieces to begin to build musicianship. With intermediate musicians, I tend to seek out anything of interet to the student while incorporating harder repertoire to strengthen musicianship and to continue to peek interest in music. With adult musicians, I let them guide me to their area of interest, and I capitalize on that to guide them to better musicianship, no matter what their skill level may be. Read More

The first thing I do when teaching a student is to learn what musical goals and aspirations the student may have. Then, depending on age and experience, I build a custom program for the student, which may include using various books, resources, and even materials which I have created. I have found that this is not only the most effective way for me to teach but also the most effective way to connect with students where they are and for them to learn at their own pace while also enjoying the process. For beginning students, I start with the fundamental book that they use at school in their band class. If the student is not in a class yet, I would recommend starting with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. I also have a collection of fundamentals and warm ups that I have saved from my middle school, high school, and college years that I will use with students depending on ability level. For students of all ages and ability levels, I have found it to be helpful to know what kind of music they are interested in and incorporate that into my lessons. Read More
