I have a lifelong passion for music, with my passion being in drumming and percussion but having a great deal of experience in trombone and a strong knowledge of guitar as well.  I graduated from Wesleyan University in 2008 with Honors in Music.  I have just recently traveled to Ghana for a 10-month trip to study traditional drumming, Afrobeat drum set style, and more. Teaching has always been a passion of mine! In 2019, I graduated from University of Central Arkansas with my Bachelor of Music Education. From there, I earned a Graduate Certificate in Trombone Performance from the University of Central Arkansas in 2020. Finally in May 2023, I earned my Master of Music in Trombone Performance with a secondary area in Music Education. The biggest joy in teaching and working with students is seeing them develop a passion and love for music. My teaching experience is very hands on and I love to model everything that I teach. It's important for my students to progress at his or her own pace and I encourage this by setting goals for my students at each lesson. I began teaching private lessons part-time during my undergraduate, and I have worked full-time in education, either as a band director or private lesson teacher, for the past 14 years. As a Bachelor's and Master's student, I honed my musicianship and technique to an incredible degree; as a band director, I learned a great deal about how to connect with and break concepts down for young students. Encouraging them to share with their families what they are working is always a good way to assure that they'll have a good support system throughout, which normally gets them more motivated to improve. Making sure they are having a good time throughout our lesson and during their practice times is key. My goal with my students is always to see them enjoy themselves while growing as musicians. I want to know what inspires my students and what they strive for as well, though it's always okay if they can't answer that immediately. Learning an instrument is a journey. I believe that the most important part of my teaching style is positive reinforcement. The most successful teachers and mentors that I know or have studied with readily acknowledge a student's strengths and are not afraid of letting them know when they are proud of their students.
