I first began teaching music in 2006 as the trumpet instructor at Silver Creek Central School where I directed trumpet master classes for high school students.I later took on various private students teaching trumpet, guitar, electric bass, improvisation, and arrangement composition.While earning my Master of Music at the University of the Arts, I served as the trumpet department intern and was responsible for teaching private trumpet lessons, preparing transcriptions for class materials and live performances, and proctoring music theory exams.Also at UArts, I was a teaching assistant for the Freshman Jazz Improvisation class for which I conducted sectionals, administered exams, and offered critiques regarding inventiveness of improvisations. To me, nothing is more satisfying then problem solving and that is what these lessons are. I help find the roadblock in the way of your student learning, and I give them the tools to fix it. As they practice more and more, they will start to figure out there own ways to fix issues. I only had one student thus far in my teaching career but i can truly say that i taught him so much during our experience together. The best part about teaching a student, and i'm going to restate what i said earlier, is that both grow in the process. It only took me a year to teach that little kid how to play properly. I have been playing the trumpet since I was in the 5th grade and have had a passion for music ever since. I enjoy teaching younger and older students that are looking to begin musical training and learn a new skill.
