I have created my own method of teaching which I have perfected over the years. I create my own exercises and practice materials based on the level and interests of each individual student. I use the software program "Finale" in order to create the musical compositions that I prepare for my students. I always accompany my students on the piano. For younger beginning students who are part of a music program at school, I typically have the students bring the books and/or handouts they're using at school to their lessons. Next, I observe the student's playing, in an attempt to determine where the gaps are in their development. This usually allows me to determine which books I will have the students purchase in order to supplement what they're doing in school in a way that will ensure complete and thorough development of basic fundamentals. Begining Students I work on creating a nice tone and understanding of instrument as a whole.  I use standard of excellence training books and move on depending on students willingness and skill. Teach Jazz Improv to all levels.  Concentrate on jazz vocabulary, expression, style, and creating in the moment. Also teach meditation which leads to better practice and healthier living. The best lesson I learned before attending college, my trumpet teacher taught me, "If you sound good while practicing, you're not really practicing", which I make sure to mention multiple times. I never try to overload my students with too much material, but instead try to understand what they would like to learn, and develop lessons and exercises from that.
