I have B.M. in Acoustic Composition and Electronic Music, 10 years of playing/performing French horn, 5 rigorous years of piano instruction and performance, and a whole lifetime of singing. During my time obtaining my degree, I learned about a plethora of subjects--standard, 18th, and 20th-century theories, theoretical applications, old and new compositional and performance techniques, timbre blending and sonority, standard and experimental notation practices, music business/marketing, etc. These extra areas of expertise lend for well-rounded color for the lessons I teach. My methods definitely vary depending on the level and experience of the student. However, the fundamental exercises and order of warming up is very similar throughout the different levels of experience. It would start with long tones, then we would move on to lip slurs, then scale exercises and after that we would love on to music and etudes. For beginners I would work on embouchure technique and figure out what works best for them, and at the same time is also efficient in improving. Read More

At the very beginning level I would start with fundamentals from whatever book I feel would be best for the student depending on their age and knowledge. Beforehand I definitely will need to asses their knowledge so I can do so accordingly. I however will now focus on solely fundamentals and will try to include in songs that the student would like to learn as long as it is in the bounds of reality, the lessons I provide are only part of the equation and the real work is what is put in after the lesson. For beginning students who are just picking up the horn, we focus on the very basics on how to make noises on it. Once they understand how it make sounds, we slow work on refining and controlling so we can actually learn to play! Older and more experienced students will learn how to make Music, not just playing the notes on the page. A lot of time goes into understanding musicality, so we will often listen to recordings, play together to find different way to express musical ideas, and take time to really understand and comprehend different music genres. I prefer low stress, casual, and sometimes jovial - but engaging - lessons. All students are different, and players progress through their musical journey at different paces. So while I want to be a steady guide that motivates them, I also engage and interact with students in ways that fit them best. My teaching style centers around learning the student. I focus on the big picture. What can we do now that will make the most significant impact on the player's trajectory? Read More

For beginners I Use the essential elements book For intermediate students I use the Rubank intermediate method And for my advanced students I use the Abrans and Clarke method. These local children reminded me of myself when I was younger and strived to study music with a financially-difficult background. Helping these kids really was the highlight of my day as I could see how music has helped them grow. I will always feel grateful and excited to give back to my communities through what I do. After moving for college, I have continued to teach and tutor students and expanding these lessons to include more subjects such as songwriting, music theory, and music business. Read More
