All my students (Guitar, Violin, mandolin), get a special 4 color chart (of my unique design), with every song/tune they learn. This guards against forgetting the tune in the future. For violin, viola, cello and bass, I teach the Suzuki method. The Suzuki method is based strongly on memory and takes a systematic approach to introducing music of increasing difficulty. For classical guitar, I start off with the Frederick Noad system, "Solo Guitar Playing", and scales. As skill level increases, I assign more etudes and standard guitar repertoire. For acoustic guitar, I teach almost exclusively finger-picking. I worked extensively with the widow of the author of Essential Elements, and I understand how to implement the strategies for optimal success. As technique improves, so will the sound. I work on intonation and a good bowing arm technique. I can play and they repeat. It helps that I can accompany on the piano if one is available, but if not, the students can listen to me play to help with intonation. I have been teaching for about 10 years now, both privately and in various music lesson stores throughout the Tampa Bay area. I have taught students ranging from 5 to 60 years of age.
