I taught private violin lessons in college through the IUP String Project, where I learned a lot about the Suzuki Method of teaching. I have 11 years of experience directing orchestra and teaching lessons to students in grades 4-12. I have taught beginning students all the way up to advanced, and many of my students have advanced to PMEA District and Region orchestra festivals. I like to find out why my students are interested in playing music. This helps me to create a lesson plan for each individual one. I like to start out teaching using Alfred's beginner books, and progress from there. Each student learns at a different pace, so I base my lessons off of their progress. I love seeing students really getting into their lessons. The excitement and seeing the light bulb go off when they finally get it and are able to put all parts together. I wouldn't treat my students all the same as I know that some students learn at their own pace. At the initial lesson, we will work on goals and identifying the level that the student is at.
