I look at a students ability to read music first to determine what kind of music they should be working on. I teach students on an individual basis in order to quickly help them improve. I expected online students to bring up information about their playing experiences so that can best accommodate them as their online private teacher. My lessons are structured with attention paid to the fundamentals of each instrument and the fundamentals of music. I have learned that when a student practices a mistake over and over it remains a mistake. I immediately slow the student down and concentrate on just a measure or even two notes to accomplish correct rhythm, fingerings, articulations and phrasing. I use the Suzuki method for violin and the Alfred curriculum for piano. The Suzuki Method really focuses on the ability to train the ear first before reading music. I believe it is important to teach music reading skills as well as playing by ear. My hope is to guide students early on and teach good technique from the start so that they will not have to change bad habits later on. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! I tailor things to each students age, level and goals. I think anyone is able to learn an instrument and understand that we each learn and approach things differently. Some students are more oral or visual learners. I encourage students to practice at least four days a week and keep a practice log. Young stundents are rewarded by stickers for their weekly practice. Read More
