As a strong believer of the KIPP mission and vision, I work hard to instill the truths spoken to me behind the process of getting to and through college, constantly reminded by the words of Marianne Williamson that “our greatest fear is not that we are inadequate, but that we are powerful beyond measure.” There are 2 things that I believe in regards to education: 1) All students can/will learn. 2) It is not whether or not you are smart, but rather HOW you are smart, citing Gardner's Theory of Intelligence. I've performed in several orchestras at the college level and competed in a variety of fiddle contests throughout the state of Texas, most recently the Fiddler's Frolics in Hallettsville, Texas. I have been a volunteer after-school violin instructor in the Houston Independent School District (Roosevelt Elementary, Gallegos Elementary, and Martinez Elementary) and local Jewish community centers. I'm also very active in the Houston opera and theater communities and have performed in nearly a dozen productions in the area, often in small accompanying orchestras and as a soprano and/or actress. For beginner students, i typically like to work with the tried and true Suzuki books, as well as theory practice with Essential Elements for violin, and the Faber books for pianists. I will begin to introduce solo work as skills build, but we will always be working on something that the student genuinely is interested in. For adults/ intermediate or advanced students i try to find what the student is interested in and guide my instruction accordingly to keep lessons fun and engaging while also slightly challenging to further understanding of technical abilities. Due to my training in the Suzuki Violin Method, I often start my beginner students with Suzuki Book 1. However, I supplement this music with exercises found in other method books, as well as fun games and activities that help my younger students learn more about the violin. I believe that they should start learning to read music early on in their education, and will provide games and flashcards that the student can use in order to help develop this skill. Read More

For beginning students, I always start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. I've found this book to be the best at introducing the instrument and reading the music. I may or may not continue teaching out of the books (there's 3), but that depends on the student. By book 2 or 3 I usually begin introducing Suzuki, as there are many solo pieces for them. Suzuki is also great for teaching technique, which is essential to their skill-set. Read More

I’m a passionate instructor that has enthusiastic energy and desire to make students improve. I believe that not only does the instructor must be talented good, but also know how to teach and build a strong trusting relationship to help achieve the student’s goals and see their progress. I am currently working on getting my bachelor’s degree in viola performance at the University of Houston on scholarship studying under Suzanne LeFevre, professional violist who plays at the Houston Grand Opera, and alongside with Wayne Brooks, principal chair violist from the Houston Symphony.
