In addition to lesson and scale books I like to heavily supplement technical material, finger strengthening exercises, repertoire appropriate to playing level, and theory. I also send students home with listening homework from time to time, which includes listening to works from famous composers on youtube and then having a brief conversation about those pieces at the start of our next lesson. I believe understanding the scope of an instrument from more than just the technical aspect of it really enhances the learning experience and makes students value the techniques they are learning. On top of violin pedagogy, I was also employed by the University of North Texas Learning Center as a Supplemental Instructor for Music Theory. I am a violinist of 15 years and have been teaching since 2014. I received my BA in an unrelated field in 2017, but incorporated music into a number of courses and assignments. I took private lessons in 2015, from 2008-2010, and from 2004-2006. I have soloed with Rainbow City Orchestra (for whom I served as Concertmaster from 2011-2015), Issaquah Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Edmonds-Woodway High School Chamber and Symphony Orchestras.
