My desire is for all of my students to know and learn proper technique. For beginner students, I will start with theory basics that are foundational to learning and can be directly applied to their instrument. Once they gain a basic understanding of the fundamentals, I will introduce more complete solo repertoire that they can begin to work on. Depending on the interests, learning desires, and level of the student, I will move forward with what interests them, though I may require some classical selections as I believe it to be a style foundational to a great musician. My first experience with teaching was as a 15 year old counselor at a week long violin summer camp in Maine that my private teacher was running. It was a really fun summer of outdoor violin practice, board games, fishing, swimming, watching movies and cooking together. Since then, I have been teaching private lessons and also enjoyed 2 summers teaching at Interlochen. My students are active in the local community and we participate in most of the local opportunities such as All west, youth symphonies, and competitions. Read More
