From my jazz training I help students improvise and create their own artistry. From my classical training I help students to learn to sight read, interpret the page correctly, play with a clean sound and play well in an ensemble. From my folk music training, I teach how to play from chord sheets, how to dirty up the sound to match the style and how to play in styles such as bluegrass, jazz, American fiddle, Irish and Scottish, Scandanavian, Klesmer or Classical. My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time , and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio and music schools for the last 15 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More

Instruments: Voice
When a good teacher finds a good student, they inspire each other. If you want to learn how to sing in the shower a little better, that's fine, and I might help you do that; but if you feel impelled to use your voice to issue forth song in a more profound way, you have to begin with a deep-down feeling, and one that you can project from your body (and soul) up through your throat and out of your mouth. Every student is different and has different dreams, needs and goals. So, my teaching style relies heavily on communicating with my students and their parents, if applicable. My first lesson is focused on setting goals for yourself and unearthing musical dreams and ideas. The following lessons are about hitting that goal as soon as possible. Once that goal is hit, I set another goal with you, and so on. I keep an eye on making sure you get the essentials (notes, finger placement, posture, good habits, etc.) and incorporate the things you are needing or missing into our goals. Read More

I believe every student has the capacity to sing and perform music, and empowering students to feel comfortable expressing themselves musically is one of my highest and most constant objectives. I work with students to understand what their goals are, what their interests are, what their backgrounds are, and we work together to create an educational trajectory that meets these goals. It's important to me that students enjoy our lessons and the work we do together. Read More

My longest student started at 12 and by time he was 17 years old i told him he would be having to teach me a few things soon. we became friends and were in a band together for a while until i moved south, i loved having that connection, and i hope to find plenty others like that. it makes me feel good knowing others are gaining from my teaching so i do my very best!
