I began teaching music in 2006 while still in college, and I have worked at a variety of different music schools and teaching companies, most notably at the University of Southern California. I taught and maintained a small voice studio of my own in New York City for four years before the pandemic forced me back to the west coast to care for my family. I typically work with a wide variety of students with different ages and backgrounds, and I pride myself on offering a holistic and trauma informed approach to the study of voice and singing. We start each lesson with proper breathing technique, the cornerstone of all vocals. We then move on to various vocal exercises to help condition the voice. Then we will work on the songs that interest you and that you are eager to sing! I will use a piano for warm ups and conditioning exercises. Music has been my life for as far as I can remember, I took my first lesson when I was seven years old and I was hooked. Ive been a Music performer for the past 18 years on my main instrument which is piano and Ive been teaching for 11 years. Ive helped a number of students reach their music goals, like two brothers that both discovered the love for saxophone in a school band I used to manage and were accepted into a performance school, or a young girl I taught whos goal was to play her favorite video game song on the piano but continued learning cause she loved it. Throughout his teaching career, Jamie has also participated in many performance and recording projects both as band leader of The Rift, a guest, and a solo artist. During the school year 2016 - 2017 he was a Show Director for the School of Rock - Mamaroneck. Most recently he designed, produced, and taught residencies, culminating concerts, and family workshops for LEAP NYC as a Teaching Artist. He hopes to deepen his impact with music by exploring an education in music therapy and starting a not for profit that provides a 24/7/365 safe-space for young artists, thespians, and musicians in the future.
