We start each lesson with proper breathing technique, the cornerstone of all vocals. We then move on to various vocal exercises to help condition the voice. Then we will work on the songs that interest you and that you are eager to sing! I will use a piano for warm ups and conditioning exercises. For beginning students, I introduce musical theatre and classical repertoire and the fundamentals of music theory. As the student progresses, I include advanced exercises used to strengthen the voice and have them learn various styles of singing based on their interests and career path. Students are expected to vocalize every day on their own and complete any homework or songs before assigned dates. My teaching style is non judgemental, holistic and trauma informed. I focus heavily on making sure my student is truly comfortable and feels safe in their lessons, and in my experience, this is critical to ensure progress and good technique. I take notes during lessons to ensure that goals are set and achieved, and I spend at least two hours a week just brainstorming repertoire and technical exercises for my students based on their needs. Music is my life! I'm currently finishing up my Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance at Portland State, and teaching music in the Portland community. I am also very fortunate to be an active performer. I've sung lead and supporting roles in many musicals and operas, and am thrilled to be a part of the internationally renowned Portland State Chamber Choir.
