I then took a year to work in the industry at several regional musical theater and opera houses domestically and internationally. I begin to introduce solo repertore when appropriate but I do not rush this process. In the first lesson, I listen very carefully to what the student wants to achieve and how they feel about the way they sing. Then, I begin my strategy of how to devise a skills building foundation based on their needs. After a few exercises, I can understand how quickly they can adapt and try new techniques. I will encourage and try new ways to explain or demonstrate a skill that the student is having difficulty with and I will be extremely enthusiastic about their accomplishments. For piano students ages 5-9, I generally use the Faber and Faber Piano Adventures series. For piano ages 10-12 I use the Older Beginner series. My teen and adult students normally work out of and Adult All in One series. For more advanced piano students Ill work repertoire, theory and scales/technique as needed/desired by the student.
