The method of teaching is as follows: 1) assess where the student is in music and in life, 2) ask about goals in music, 3) formulate objective to reach those goals, 4) rethink things when needed (students aren't cookies, so I can't use a cookie cutter). I do focus on things in order though. If you don't know your fundamentals, then that's where we start no matter what. After learning fundamentals, however, we can begin to pick and choose the battles and wars. Read More

While still in college, I was a music tutor at North Star in Hadley For two years. I worked one-on-one with students in middle school on both voice and guitar. During my time there, I taught kids anything from different chords on the guitar, to breath support and passion in one's singing, to vocal improvisation and stage confidence. I've been away from teaching for a couple of years, but with the a Capella group, I have to accommodate for twelve different people and their learning styles. Read More

I began teaching before I graduated from high school thanks to a tutoring program at the high school. I had so much fun working with the elementary school kids that I decided to build a studio up of my own and ever since i have been working with a number of students ages ranging from 4-80. My students are individually pushed to reach goals that they make for themselves at the start of lessons no matter what that goal might be and I love being able to make a fun journey to that goal. I started voice lessons the year before I went to college. I always loved music and singing, no matter the genre. I fell in love with opera shortly after starting at Westminster and found my passion in performing the classical art form. I have been fortunate in that I have always been surrounded by amazing teachers who were passionate and driven. They always pushed me past what I thought I was capable of and guided me along the way. It is very important to me that regardless of instrument, the student learns healthy and sustainable techniques that will last a lifetime. I also foster independent student thought in lessons; it is a real joy to me when students not only progress musically, but as an artist as well. If they can understand music on their own without constant instruction or correction; I know I have done my job. A student that can self-diagnose their faults in music is on their way to being a musician themselves! Read More

For my jazz students, I always start them off singing simple standard tunes that many people are familiar with. I have access to every jazz real book, and have many different lead sheets to tunes that aren't even included in them. I also have access to many different musical theatre books for all different voice types. I'm working on getting more piano books in my library, but I am a friend to many professional pianist that are able to provide a variety of texts to me which helps me more than I know. Read More
