Part of our final project included giving a sample lesson to a colleague, and I fell in love with helping someone achieve their goal through singing. I have taught in several different settings over the years, but my private studio has been the most satisfying environment. I have been singing and playing piano for 25 years, teaching for 10 years, and performingprofessionally for 6 years. My students are a very important part of my musical life. For voice I create my own custon lesson plans and use a variety of materials. Students will work on a great variety of repetorie from pop to renaissance. Students are encourgaed to learn to read music, with a great emphasis placed upon practical music theory. I aim to develop intellegent musical artists, foscuing upon intrepretation, critical thinking, historical considerations and creativity. For piano I general use the Faber and Faber method books unless I feel that a particular method would better benefit a specific student. Read More

I move at a very quick pace, but I have my students set their own goals. While I will select the literature for the student, I want them to feel successful when they are working with me. I want students to be confident and successful, so I will do anything in my power to help them learn good technique and practice habits. For my string students, I typically use Hal Leonard's Essential Elements at first, and then I introduce the Suzuki Method for solo repertoire once they have progressed on their instruments. For my vocal students, I find what type of music my student is interested in, and I then recommend a voice book that we will pick repertoire from. For my piano students, I use the Piano Adventures series, which includes the fundamentals as well as solo repertoire. Read More

I will generally start out with well known songs sung by ear, and then depending on the students level help them to learn to read music.
