  Music lessons will certainly broaden the students knowledge of music.  It has been proven through scientific study that the study of music will improve the individuals cognitive ability and aids in brain development.  Children who study music develop higher math and problem solving skills.    Age is not a factor as we are never to old to learn.  My students range in age from 5 years old to well into their 70’s, many of whom simply want to improve their skills or recapture the joy of making music.  The study and enjoyment of music can and often becomes a life long adventure whether its just for fun or as a career. I usually start with breathing exercises and vocalises for all students. I also use the exercise books Concone and Sieber. After the student has grasped the breathing and the coordination of the vocalises we move on to repertoire that is age appropriate. I encourage my students to sing in Italian as this helps them to acquire a proper technique because Italian uses pure vowels. I have studied with some great teachers and feel like I need to pass on those methods to the next generation of musicians. Read More

I believe communication is of the upmost importance. I communicate with parents to let them know how the student is doing, what we are working on, and what to do next. As mentioned above, I tailor to my student's needs based on their understanding and pace. Some students move a little slower than others in certain areas, and some move faster. My teaching experience began when I completed my degree in Music Education 10 years ago. Since that time I have been teaching private lessons to students of all ages. As a teacher, I believe it is my job to meet my students where they are in their development, and prescribe exercises, repertoire, and information that will help the student with each of their individual needs and goals. My teaching style is just like most I think. I don't rush with the students. Always trying to go slow and make sure the students understands everything. I've gotten pretty good at figuring out when the students get what I'm trying to teach. If I feel like I'm going to fast I'll stop think about what I'm doing and slow down.
