I have my students start with sufficient stretching to get the body ready for singing. Following that, I warm up their voices with different scales and specific singing exercises, which I will use independently with students in different levels. Afterwards, we work on the music. I have been instructing students in voice for a year now. I have worked with kids as young as 6 years old to high school level. I encourage consistent and regular practice, but also breaks and time to ask questions if one is stuck and not sure what to do. I mainly use classical style techniques and songs to build strong vocal instruments, but I also reference and use genres that individual students prefer to sing to keep their interest and build their love for singing. I do not pressure students to enter competitions and recitals are optional unless 10 or more students are willing to participate. I do encourage students to look for opportunity to play/sing in their school/church or in front of their friends/family for special occasions.
