I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 2016, I graduated from Belmont University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance. Performing all over the world has been one of the greater experiences of my life as a musician, and I've had the opportunity to play both at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in Nashville, Grand Ole Opry WSM Radio Station, as well as touring the United States as several performances as the principle Vocalist in multiple bands. Typically, I begin with regimented learning. For guitar students, I use Hal Leonards Guitar Method 1. For voice students, I teach basic breathing exercises and fun, sustainable and memorable warm-ups. From there, I begin to prep them for their first solo performances. I offer studio-wide performance opportunities for new and experienced students to show off their skills! As they progress, I teach to their interests and needs. I believe that proficiency on any instrument begins with understanding how the different parts of the instrument work together to create an optimal sound. All of my students will have an understanding of the system in place that allows them to chase the sound they hear in their heads. Whether you're 8 or 80, you won't find success if you don't know how to operate the machinery! I began teaching private tutoring sessions to underclassmen while I was studying songwriting at Berklee College of Music. I tutored my friends in ear training, harmony, and performance/audition technique. I found the process came quite naturally to me because I brought the knowledge I had of teaching piano and voice to children in high school to the table. For beginner students, we start off using the beginning books from "Piano Adventures" by Faber Faber, and published by Hal Leonard. They learn to read music, improvise, music theory, and play all style of music. A typical lesson for an elementary school student would be 10 min of playing assigned pieces that they've practiced for the week, 10 min of new songs for the next week, 5 min of music theory, and 5 min of some sort of musical game. If students are beginners, I generally use the Alfred Lesson books which are made for children and adults. These include theory books which I love to teach! Knowing the music theory behind what you're playing is so important and helps the music make much more sense. As a student progresses, I like to have them choose a piece out of selected repertoire so that they may have a say in what they're learning, and so that they will enjoy it all the more. Read More

For beginners, I typically start students off with the suzuki books to build technique, but I teach them from the classical perspective rather than the suzuki method. With intermediate and advanced students, i will introduce solo repertoire appropriate for recital performance and/or a commercial piece (fiddle tunes, pop songs, etc) that the student is interested in learning. Fiddle is my specialty, but I also teach classical violin and even my fiddle students will learn classical technique. Read More
