Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop and hone their skills! I am extremely hands on and I listen very intently during my sessions. I have a great "ear" which is my best asset. I encourage each student to progress at his or her own pace. I encourage this by maintaining a stress free environment. While I am happy to help set some basic goals and will assign work to do outside of our lessons, I believe that long term goals are our own. I like to keep my lessons fun. I realize that technique can be dull and dry at times but is a necessity in learning music. I like to mix technique with songs and styles of music the student is interested in so they get a full understanding of why technique is important and how it applies to songs and musical selections that are of interest to the student. Each student is given a customized lesson plan according to their level, abilities and goals. If they are absolute beginners, I like to give a general layout of the map of the instrument and its parts, how they function, where middle C is, and give them a first piece to learn that encompasses a bit of these ideas, slowly incorporating and building their understanding.
