I first began teaching private music lessons in high school when I taught my neighbors' children. I continued teaching through my undergraduate degree and loved it so much that I decided to make it a career and am now getting my advanced certificate in vocal pedagogy to further my knowledge and be the best voice teacher I can be. As an adjunct voice instructor at NYU I am always thrilled to teach a variety of levels of voice students ranging from beginner to advanced. Read More

I try to be as flexible as possible, many things would depend on the student's age and background. I pay a lot of attention to movement when playing the instrument, I try to do this from the lesson one with an absolute beginner. For most beginning students who are children , I typically start with Alfred Alfred's Basic Piano Prep Course Lesson Book A and voice I typically start with Adventures in singing. I also recognize that every student is different and will cater the material and course of study to the individual (based off a mix of my observations, what the students communicated goals are, and what the parents communicated goals are) above all of this, my main goal is to spark and maintain the joy for singing, and to foster the thought that control over the voice just boosts the passion for it. I started my teaching career my sophomore year of college while studying the performing arts. I first began teaching at a music school in Greenwich, CT after being referred by my orchestra conductor. After teaching there for a few months i was then recommended by a fellow teacher to instruct at a school in Darien, CT as well as their sister store where I developed a strong clientele. After teaching for the past six years i know that this is my passion in life. Read More

I believe in teaching discipline, responsibility and dedication through the art of music! I use the NYS Common Core in Music to teach. My students are more likely to excel in all of their studies, have enhanced critical thinking skills and will have a higher level of focus discipline than students not studying music the arts. As an adult, learning how to play an instrument is a way to challenge your brain in an effort to stay sharper and alert for longer. Read More

I typically create individualized plans for my vocal students, depending on their level. I focus on technique and ease of singing with proper breathing for support. I do visualization techniques to help achieve an increased range without strain. I incorporate music the student is interested in to maintain their interest and love of music. I choose pieces of music that are appropriate for their level, yet challenging enough to keep them always improving. Read More

What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
I once took a masterclass with a clarinetist who asked the music students what the number one reason people didn’t practice. Some students said Laziness, others said Lack of Motivation. I raised my hand and said, “Fear.” Fear is the number one reason why any person who needs to practice something might procrastinate, waste time, or just give up completely. Fear of failure, or even fear of success, can paralyze a musician of any age. I always encourage my students to acknowledge what fear is keeping them from practicing, meditate on the answer, and then move past it. We will work together to find a way toward consistency. Understand that not every method works for everyone. It takes time to figure out what works for you. I have many ideas that I use to help students overcome practice and performance anxiety, including making practice charts, taking breaks, positive self talk, and rewards!

How do I know if my child is ready to start lessons?
I believe a child is ready to start lessons if their parent is willing to learn with them and continue teaching even when the instructor isn’t there. A three year old can learn music theory, but not if their grownup isn’t willing to practice with them every day for even just five minutes. An older child still needs help staying on track, and that’s when the adult(s) in their life come in. Even if your child is a musical genius, prodigies still need to practice! We will talk about what to practice and for how long based on age and experience in every lesson, and I will adjust this as we go along.

When will I start to see results?
When it comes to music, there is always more to learn! But, in my experience, being result oriented tends to rush students of any age into sloppy techniques, lack of music theory awareness, and ultimately frustration with practice. Being willing to practice the same scales every day slowly and correctly while increasing tempo gradually is more important than being able to play Für Elise on day one. However, I understand a student’s potential passion for performance opportunities. With voice and piano, I teach skills that allow students to learn chord structures and keys in a way that enables them to learn new songs quickly and easily (with practice) while not throwing out the importance of music theory knowledge.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
